Best places for beachside living in San Diego

Carlsbad Waterfront

With approximately 70 miles of breathtaking shoreline set against dramatic cliff formations, San Diego is a favorite destination among sun worshippers and those longing to live by the sea. From the thrilling things to see and do at the Embarcadero to the spectacular seaside cliffs of La Jolla, there is always something here for everyone.

Planning on finding your dream home in San Diego? Then here are some of its best beachfront neighborhoods to help you in deciding where your next home will be.

OCEANSIDE

This coastal city at the northernmost tip of San Diego used to be known as a dynamic retail hub until local store owners here decided to transfer to nearby malls, leaving city commerce at almost zero. However, Oceanside has reinvented itself and is now at the cusp of becoming a stunning resort city and the ultimate venue for surfing, fishing, or whale-watching.

On Oceanside’s northern border is one of the largest Marine Corps bases in the country, Camp Pendleton. This is why this city has become home to many families with members serving in the said base.

CARLSBAD

Idyllic and charming, Carlsbad draws in families everywhere for its child-friendly attractions like Legoland and the Carlsbad Flower Fields. The beach town is also home to Agua Hedionda Lagoon where you can spend the day boating, fishing, and paddleboarding, as well as Carlsbad Aquafarm where you can learn about sustainable shellfish farming. It also has an exciting retail and dining space: Carlsbad Village, which also serves as the city’s downtown area.

When in Carlsbad, a variety of outdoor activities are available to you, including diving, surfing, birdwatching, and rock hunting. Golf enthusiasts could tee off at Aviara Golf Club which is regarded as one of the best resort golf courses in the country.

DEL MAR

With a name that translates to “of/from the sea,” Del Mar is a magnificent coastal town known for its natural beauty. Its famous North Beach is adored by pet parents and their furry pooches as it’s one of North County’s official dog beaches.

Not only is Del Mar an epicenter of luxury living but it is also a place of several unique events. Summers see the Del Mar Fairgrounds becoming a hotbed of activity with the annual San Diego County Fair. Adjacent to the fairgrounds is another local landmark: the Del Mar Racetrack.

LA JOLLA

The stunning La Jolla Cove, world-class breaks at Black’s Beach and Windansea Beach, and the acclaimed Torrey Pines Golf Course are just some of the many must-see attractions in and around this beautiful beachside neighborhood. Its powerful connection with the natural surroundings is evident in a number of facilities dedicated to showcasing and preserving life both above and below the sea: the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier, the Birch Aquarium, and the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve.

Upscale living is also a norm in La Jolla, with grand estates and stately mansions providing exemplary views of the North Pacific expanse. Plus, the presence of the San Diego campus of the highly-esteemed University of California brings a youthful, vibrant vibe to this picturesque community.

SOLANA BEACH

A tight-knit coastal community between Del Mar and Encinitas, Solana Beach is one of San Diego’s hidden gems with pristine and uncrowded beaches. Cedros Design District – a local favorite for its art galleries, restaurants, cafés, boutiques, and music venue – is an attraction you shouldn’t miss when visiting the area.
